DV.OS 8.X/YOUR OWN APP/ON THEIR HOME SCREEN/OCTOBER 2026
~/projects/your-own-app.md

Your members, on their home screen. An app with your name on it, installed straight from your website. Built and kept running for you.

For businesses with regulars: studios, gyms, clubs, training providers. One app where your members book, catch up and see your news, instead of a link buried in last month's email.

your logo, your colours, your icon on their phone

An example app for an invented studio.

What changes when you're an icon, not a link

Your members already have your website and your emails. An app sits somewhere else: on the phone they check all day.

One tap, already signed in

No hunting for the booking link or the password. Members tap your icon and they're where they need to be.

News that's waiting for them

Post an update once. It's in the app the next time they open it, and it goes to their inbox by email.

Nothing to wait for

Members add it from your website in seconds. Changes reach everyone straight away, with no app store review in between.

What goes in it

Every app starts from the same tested core, then gets the screens your business actually needs. We choose them together in the first conversation.

  • Your look, all the way through. Logo, colours, and the icon and name on their home screen.
  • Updates by email. Post news in the app and it goes out to your members' inboxes too.
  • Bookings and events. Classes, sessions and dates, with spaces that count down.
  • A members' library. Videos, guides and downloads that only members can open.
  • Different logins for different people. Members, staff and you each see what they need.
  • Phone and computer. The same app works on a laptop, so nobody is left out.
  • Your own screens. The thing only your business does, whether that's a progress log, a rota or a check-in.
  • AI inside, where it earns its place. Answering common questions or sorting sign-ups, with you still deciding.

From a conversation to their home screen

You deal with me throughout. No account managers, no handoffs.

  1. We talk about your members

Who they are, what they come back for, and what you'd tell them if you could reach them easily. You get a one-page plan of the screens, in writing, with the fixed price.

  2. You click through it before anyone else sees it

The app runs with your branding and real content from early on. Changes within the agreed plan are part of the price, so we adjust until it's right.

  3. Your members add it to their phones

You share one link. On iPhone, members tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, it's the browser menu, then Add to Home screen. I write a short guide you can send to members.

  4. It keeps running

Hosting and small fixes are covered by the monthly fee. New features are quoted separately, at a fixed price.

Next: the App Store and Google Play

I'm preparing an add-on that publishes the same app to both stores, with notifications that land on members' lock screens. It builds on the app you already have rather than starting again. If that matters to you, say so when we talk and I'll keep you posted.

Worth knowing before we start

iPhone users add it themselves

iPhones don't offer to install apps from a website, so members tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. The members' guide shows them how.

No lock-screen alerts yet

Your news is waiting in the app and arrives by email. Notifications on the lock screen come with the App Store version.

Not every business needs one

If your members visit once a year, a good website will serve them better. I'll tell you that in the first conversation.

~/app/questions.md

Questions

Is it a real app if it's not in the App Store?

It opens from its own icon on the home screen with one tap, like any other app. What it doesn't have yet is a store listing or lock-screen notifications. Those come with the App Store add-on.

Do I need a website as well?

It helps, because that's where new people find you and where the install link lives. If you don't have one, I build Wix Studio sites too and can quote both together.

How do members pay?

On your website, as they do now. The app is where they use what they've signed up for.

What is it built on?

Base44, an app platform I'm a partner on. It handles the logins and the data, which is why a full app costs what it does here rather than five figures.

Can I add things later?

Yes. Small fixes are covered by the monthly fee. A new feature gets its own fixed price before I start, so you always know the cost first.
